Piaf: La Vie en Rose, in French with English

Department of Literature and Language and the Alliance Française
of Cincinnati.
Winner of 2 Academy Awards in 2008 !! La Vie en Rose
"An un-chronological look at the life of the Little Sparrow, Edith Piaf
(1915-1963). Her mother is an alcoholic street singer, her father a
circus performer, her paternal grandmother a madam. During childhood
she lives with each of them. At 20, she's a street singer discovered by
a club owner who's soon murdered, coached by a musician who brings her
to concert halls, then quickly famous. Constant companions are alcohol
and heartache. The tragedies of her love affair with Marcel Cerdan and
the death of her only child belie the words of one of her signature
songs, "Non, je ne regrette rien." The back and forth nature of the
narrative suggest the patterns of memory and association."

Bastille Day
in Cincinnati
There were 2 events this year to celebrate
Bastille Day!
On July 13th evening, the traditional pic-nic was organized jointly by
the European-American Chamber of Commerce, the Montgomery Sister Cities
and the Alliance Francaise.
The picnic took place at Swaim Lodge, Montgomery, Ohio. This year, the
picnic was a huge potluck that ended up being of absolutely excellent
quality! The drinks were available on site. After the food, the picnic
turned into a dancing event in the moonlight. Everybody loved it!
On July 14th, between noon and midnight, the Alliance Francaise staffed
a booth at the Bastille Day event organized by the city of Montgomery.
The
booth clearly had a French twist and attracted lots and lots of people.
